Over the Labor Day weekend my hubby and I went to Silverton, Colorado! It was a four day journey that was a total blast! The weather was good overall and the scenery was breathtaking for sure. Here's a few from the trip. I'll post more later.

Back when I was in highschool I used to sew ALL the time. My grandmother and mom taught me and I used to make dresses and skirts and stuff like that. Well I haven't sewed since then but I'm going to try to figure it out again. I've been to store and after store and haven't found the exact print I've been looking for for pillows for the couch! So I've decided to make my own...yikes! Do you like the material I picked out?!

David Jay...a well known photographer and Jasmine Star...another amazing wedding photographer came to KC last night and had a seminar. It was SOOOO inspiring! It was definitely one of better seminars I've ever been to. I came away feeling both excited and exhausted at the same time. I'm doing a whole revamp on my biz (as you have already seen by my website colors and style). I started about two weeks before this seminar and now feel like I've got TONS more to think about! Ah! It's craziness... But I'm Sara Tafoya (well...Howell) So I'm going to succeed! It's time to spend some good, quality time with the Lord and see where he wants me to go with all this. In the mean time, below is an image of Jasmine in the middle and my friend/client and now fellow photographer Claire :) You girlies totally rock!

So Josh and I spent Friday to Sunday night non-stop painting the new house. We were sooo exhausted by the end of the weekend! But we got a lot done, too. You can see the before and after pics and some of the rooms in the house...as we go along in our painting adventure, I'll keep ya updated!

I'm a so excited to announce we are FINALLY accepting credit cards! Hopefully this will make life tons easier for all of us. I've always made it available to third parties to just buy images on the web using credit cards but now you can purchase your ENTIRE WEDDING this way! From now on I'm going to have all SENIOR shoots and ENGAGEMENT shoots paid for via credit or debit or check before the shoot takes place. This will make the whole process for everyone run much smoother.

Our New House!

I'm sure it's kind of confusing to you Kansas City people when you're reading my blog but here's the low-down... My wonderful husband, Josh and I just got married 3 months ago. He is from Sedalia, MO and has a house there. Naturally I packed my bags and headed across the border. Although I terribly miss KC I'm learning to love it here too. I travel hour drive back and for to KC at least once a week for weddings, consultations, shoots and/or family & friends. I still plan to do business and shoot weddings all over the Greater Kansas City Area so don't count me out when looking for a photographer!

Anyway, here's some pics of the new house! We are supposed to be closing on August 1st. I'm so excited! This house is newer and bigger than our current home. We're still looking for a buyer for our current house so email me if you're interested!

Congrats to Erin & Grant! They had a beautiful ceremony in Richmond Missouri and then the reception in Lexington. What a cute couple! Erin did a great job staying calm...altho she was very organized, so that always helps. Her dress was very "chic" and fit her well. The church had red carpet, which normally doesn't turn out spectacular in pictures, but she matched it with having her BMs hold red gerbera daises and roses...it was great!

I've had the priveledge of growing up somewhat with these wonderful children. I've known their parents since I was 15 and babysat them quite a bit. I was babysitting the two older kids even before the youngest came along. We did an overnight while the parents went out of town and played around with the camera a bit. Ethan was such a hunky chunk of love! lol I used to be roommates with his mother before she had Ethan, that's how I had the chance to spend some time with this beauitiful baby. I had an amazing talk with a couple of girl friends last night that really helped me gain perspective on things in my life. I just feel so blessed to have such incredible relationships in my life, people who come along side you and hear you out when you need to vent and need some serious words of wisdom. I am a Christian and I want to say that I am so overly blessed! The Lord is so amazing and His mercy is new everyday. How cool is that? His heart is full of compassion and grace even though we don't deserve anything but hell. I'm overjoyed to be serving the King.

We currently have fourteen weddings booked for 2008 and it's still January! God is so good! I can't wait to be a part of everyone's special day...that will be a blast. We are going to try and keep our weddings at about 25 this year and not more. I think this is smart considering I will be a newlywed. The Mountains Rock!

Wow! I haven't blogged in a LOOOOOONG TIME! Life has been crazy! Josh and I got back from Colorado just a week or so ago. We went skiing in Loveland, Colorado. It was beautiful but bitter cold. We spent the extended weekend with his sister and her husband...Sarah and Jared. We had a blast!

Now it's back to real life! I moved out of my apartment and thankfully it wasn't half as painful as it normally would have been because my amazing fiance helped me a TON! What a great guy! We are now down to 59 days left till the wedding...yikes~! My gown came in from the Gown Gallery (www.gowngallery.com) just the other day. It is SO beauitiful! You'll see pics soon!

My assistants and I just came back from Tampa! We went there to PPA...Professional Photographers of America. We had such a blast! Learned SOOOO much...can't wait to start putting everything in action! We went to tons of great seminars. I know it's totally UNoriginal but I wanted something similar as to not confuse people with my lastname change and things like that. It will hopefully be up and almost completed by mid January. And you know I'll definitely blog ALL about it! The purpose of another site is for weddings. We LOVE weddings. They are so much fun! I love personally working with brides and planning their special day. In fact...mine is exactly 99 DAYS AWAY! YAY! We're down to two digits! Mexico Here We Come!

Josh and I FINALLY put our deposit down...we're going to Mexico, baby! WOO HOO! It's going to be great! We're staying at a beautiful all-inclusive resort on the beach of the Playa Del Carmen in the Riviera Maya. I've been near here with my family once a LONG time ago when I was 16 but haven't been back since. It'll be so much fun just going as a couple. Our room is tight! We have a jacuzzi and a balcony and it's huge! So much fun...can't wait! We did a honeymoon registry to help pay for the fun things to do in Mexico outside of our resort. So planning my wedding has been an interesting adventure. Let me tell ya, I thought I knew what I was getting into but was WAY wrong! There's soooo much planning that goes into these things! Especially if you want to pull one off without going broke in the process. I'm trying to decide right now if I want my bridesmaids to hold candles or bouquets as they walk down the aisle. I've seen both. Candles are pretty neat...and different. But if I do flowers then what kind do I get? And what's in season? And what kind of flower goes with which kind of flower? Ah! Too many choices...

Grace, one of my AWESOME assistants is finally a senior this year. She is not only a great photographer, photoshopper and friend, but great at being Grace. Her personality is so crazy, spunky and fun-loving. She's a great model cuz she's not afraid to be goofy and always ends up making me laugh. We were working in the office today and had this great idea that we'd take advantage of the snow! So off to the store to buy cute, colorful snow gear we went! Then down to a park. We had to warm up in the car a few times because my hands were going numb! But it was so worth it. We got some fun shots, and HEY! If you know any seniors or engaged couples who wanna come roll around in the snow with us, call us up on a day that it snows and we'll try to make it happen! (913.302.2007) It's a blast!

The pastor at my church who is doing our wedding ceremony decided to do a shoot with his beautiful wife and super sweet kids on our first snow day of the season! It was really cold, but Josh and I and the Hammonds braved it out in a park close by. The kids brought their brightly colored snow gear and I photographed them all decked out. We just did a fashion shoot for the retail clothing store named "Hemline" located on the Country Club Plaza. I am so excited to announce that I am going fulltime! So many of my photographer friends have been encouraging me to do it for such a long time and now I'm finally taking the risky leap! I'm so excited :) I've got so much planned! Weddings, Seniors & Fashion are going to be my main priority...although I'm totally open to whatever God brings my way. I've been pro for four years now but still had a job of some kind on the side. Now...as of today I am on my own. So excited to see what the future holds and can't wait to make a big splash in Kansas City portrait photography.

Okay...so this whole wedding planning thing is MUCH more difficult and involved than I thought! Wow! I give all you married women out there a high-five for actually going through with a wedding. It's NUTS! I thought being in the wedding industry it would be a little easier...but isn't. Whether you've been involved with many weddings in your life or not, I think it's still a huge process. Thankfully I have a supersquad! My mom, my best girl friends, my future M.I.L. and future S.I.L. have been such help so far! Right now we're trying to nail down the venue...I'm going for an "Urban" yet "Elegant" look and feel. Not quite sold on the colors yet...any suggestions? Also...what do you think of these dresses I found online? Let me know!

I just got back last night from shooting a wedding in NEW YORK with a photographer friend of mine! We had a blast! We left Wednesday evening and spent some timing shopping and being tourists for a bit, then it was on to the rehearsal dinner and lakeside wedding...then Saturday nigt they had their reception at the REALLY COOL art gallery place called Galapagos where they partied till morning...Phew! What a weekend! Slideshow on it's way...

The other day I was at my future inlaw's house. We decided to go to Liberty Park and take pictures of my future sis-in-law's family. Her boys are super cute! They are 2 and 4 years old. As you can see they like to wrestle. I love the song that I put to this slideshow. My bestfriend found it for me and it's perfect! It's a mother singing to her two young sons :) Watch and listen...

My amazing boyfriend proposed to me! Yay! We are getting married! He is such a sweetheart...we were walking around downtown around the plaza and Nelson area a few nights ago and then all of the sudden he grabbed my hands and got down on he knee. And he proposed! It was so cute! Then a few nights later we went to Skies on top of the Hyatt (the rotating restaurant) for dinner and wine. My ring is beautiful! I love it so much! Close ups coming soon :)

The last two years Allie has done several modeling shoots with me. She is SO talented! I'm encouraging her to pursue that along with her college degree. At the beginning of June Kansas City Business Magazine came out with their June issue and guess what! I was in it! This AWESOME friend of mine that works there was able to get a story about my Myspace page (www.myspace.com/saratafoyaphotography)...how cool is that?! Also, a photo friend of mine named Kevin Keith (www.kevinkeithphotography.com) and I photograph weddings together here and there. He sent in some fabulous images to KC Weddings Magazine...a very popular magazine for KC brides. His pics made the June issue! You can view both our work in this month's issue. Also, he's such a great friend! He photographed me for my website...I'm in the process of updating the images and decided to start with new pics of me. :) It's funny because many of my friends call me the "most photographed photographer".
